OK, I am FINALLY getting around to showing you the new hat I made for Grace. Sometimes I buy cute, really soft yarn on a total impulse. This was one of those things. I got a skein of Lion's Brand Baby's First yarn and it was a nice, chunky texture, but still smooth, too. I thought it would make a really warm hat. Too bad it took me until February. :) That is OK- the timing was perfect because a few days later her big sister gave her her first haircut. :(
I used the same pattern from Aesthetic nest (found here) for the hat as the other hats I have made (here and here) but I had to modify it for the chunky yarn. That pretty much means that I just made less rows than the original pattern called for. I crocheted and held it up to her head until it looked big enough then stopped increasing the size of the rows. Very scientific.
I also wanted to switch up the flower. I also wanted to use yarn I had on hand, so I used some leftover Charisma yarn in off-white. This was a totally different texture than the yarn on the hat- a lot more fuzzy.
This is a rose style crochet flower and I just googled it, checked out a bunch of patterns, the mushed them together to do my own thing.
I really like it, but I think I may have gone a bit overboard on the flower. It is a little big. That is OK. She can pull it off because she is so cute!
I think she has a future in modeling. She is great at doing the "serious look"!

That is the cutest hat! I love the big flower! I used to put really big bows on my daughter when she was that age. Now she looks at the pictures and says, "I can't believe you did that to me!" I think it's very cute!
