Kitchen Orgnazation

I am always trying to better organize my home.  It feels so great, but it is something that needs to be revisited again and again.  Things don't get put away right, more things are collected, and sometimes systems already in place are just not working out.

I am trying to participate in THIS challenge by I'm an Organizing Junkie to whip things into shape around here.  Last week, the desk didn't quite get finished in time, because I needed to purchase some things to get the job done.  I will post about that one later, but this week we are focusing on the kitchen.  My kitchen cupboards were definitely out of control!  This time, I used what I already had - mostly old cereal containers and snap-tops with missing lids - although I have a new list of bins and other organizational goodies that I am going to keep an eye out for when I go shopping!

I am being super transparent in this post, so please don't judge me by my messy cupboards! Here are the before and afters...

Pantry Before:

Pantry After:
I already had the old cereal containers and cereal, if I buy it, does not last longer than a day or two in this house anyway!  Also, I am normally not this stocked up on certain items, but I got some good deals before Christmas.
 Before:

After:
I am not done yet!  I want to get some wire shelves so that I don't need to stack things quite so high.
Before:

After:
I really didn't need popsicle molds up there- we rarely use them in the winter.
Using the cereal containers really helped free some space, too.
I also went through the medicines in those bins.  I had old fluoride prescriptions for the kids from 2005!
Before:

After:
I think I still have too many vases.  I have a problem.
Also, if anyone catches me buying plastic cups for any of my kids' birthday parties this year, please smack me upside the head and remind me that I already have some. Apparently, I do this every time!

Like I said before, there is still some work to be done, but I feel a lot better already.  I realized that just because a certain spot is where something has always been, does not mean that I cannot change it!  For example, we moved the coffee maker a few years ago when we got a new one that didn't fit under the cupboard where the old one was.  The coffee filters were STILL on the other side of the kitchen where the coffee maker used to be.  It made no sense! Every now and then, I need to stop and look at what will be the most effective and what has not been working.

I am #96 (that might change but it is around there and titled "Kitchen Cupboards"- creative, I know) if you want to vote for me starting on Friday at THIS link! Thanks!

Isn't that what all cupboards look like?!?!?! Oh dear, please don't ask me to take pictures of mine. LOL. You might just feel better about yourself and your cupboards.

I have a little area off our kitchenette where we have an additional cupboard and food items. I have 'arranged' it periodically, but it inevitably turns into a disaster area once again. It's like you said...we must revisit.

I will try to remember to go vote tomorrow. =) Have a Happy Friday and sooooo nice to see you post. Thinking of you often!

Lindsay, you're 96, not 97...voting isn't open yet, but I went to check and couldn't find you for a minute! =)

Your cupboards look great but honestly I don't think they were that bad before. That's what cupboard doors are for!

This inspires me to give my cabinets some attention. They look great! You are #52... but I don't see the stars below for voting?

Looks like you did a great job! Always nice to get something all organized without having to buy something new. :)
